  • of hook on to Keisuke Tonkotsu King

this time round, i went with LL. i guess this time, we went at a wrong timing. the Q is super long. probably after some articles done on Keisuke Tonkotsu King 's newly opened Ramen @ Amara hotel? the one is cooked using chicken bones. maybe i will go try it one day lol. this time round, i have their usual ramen with soup very strong. to taste their original ramen.

as you can see, the q behind is is still very long and we are standing in the middle of the q. LL say he want to try the ramen since i had it and he always wanted to try but super long Q. being the very gd gf, i went to q on behalf of him and at the same time can spend some solid gd time with him during lunch

LL had the full ramen and 1 of the hard boiled eggs from the basket. i saw some of them put mayo into the ramen. very tempted to follow the suit but..i m on diet..so...next time mayb lol

    LL's full ramen

LL's verdict : the ramen is very good. much better than santouka. the noodles is well cooked and not soggy. the meat is very tender and melts in your mouth. and he loves it very much! thumbs up!

  • of a little taste of Xing Hua (兴化)Delicacies @ Hougang Mall Food court

is amazing what you can find in food court nowadays. From Japanese cuisine to Korean cuisine and now you also have Xing Hua cuisine in Foodcourt.

This stall located at a tiny corner in Hougang Mall Food court. The actual name of the stall is Pu Tian Xing Hua. Not sure if it is related to the famous Pu tian restaurant but they do sell similar Xing Hua delicacies at a food court price.

Now, let me present to you their xin hua bee hoon. Xing Hua bee hoon is very different from other bee hoon u have in the zi char stall. firstly, their bee hoon is white ( not black due to dark soya sauce), they added "lala" clams to it which adds flavors to the bee hoon. making the bee hoon very seafood taste. they also add alot of veges to it.

their dumplings is deep fried and not pan fried. Each dumpling is made to look like small ingots (元宝). very cute and is very yummy too!

so if you happen to be at Hougang Mall to do your shopping, do pop by and try out this yummy dish ya?

  • of a pipping hot Ramen to warm your stomach on a cold wet weather - Santouka

Yes. We had RAMEN again. i dont know when this ramen craze starts but it definitely will not end. This time round , we had ramen at Santouka. 山頭火

Address: 21 Cuppage Road, Cuppage Terrace Singapore 229452

    Tel: +65 6235 1059

    Operating hours:
    Mon to Fri: 12pm - 3pm & 530pm - 1130pm
Closed on eve of Public Holidays & Public Holidays

i wouldnt say they are the best for me cos i am still looking for the best..so far the one at Ochid Hotel still the top for me in Singapore.

The price of the ramen is alittle steep. but looking at the food we had, i think still consider fairly steep? We had bbq kurobuta Tokusen Toroniku (Pork Cheek) and Tokusen Toroniku (Pork Cheek) Ramen and a bowl of normal Miso ramen. total bill is 60 bucks which is 30 bucks for both.

we waited for approx 30 mins before we get our seats. the place is very popular.

my miso ramen which is very small. u can order other sizes like medium / large. it doesnt comes with egg. so u need to do side order too. the egg is 1.50 (1 whole egg). the soup is quite thick but is very salty. the noodles is thick like normal ones.

LL's Kara Kurobuta Ramen. I like his more than mine. But due to the last bad experience with spicy ramen, i give up lol

BBQ Kurobuta Tokusen Toroniku (Pork Cheek). The meat is really very tender and melts in your mouth. As it is the meat found at the pork cheek, so it is very limited stock and it explains the price y it is so expensive lo.

overall the food is ok. except is a little too salty for me. =). Definitely will go back there for ramen =)

  • of shabu good and bad times @ Shabuya - VIVO city

guess we can really feel "singapore winter" is coming cos rainy season is here. it rain almost everyday (even now..super big rain). so we really need to eat some warm food to "warm" our stomach. Shabu-shabu and steamboat is definitely one of them. i fell in love with steamboat n shabu shabu when i went taiwan many years bk. i love the thinly sliced pork that u dip into the pipping hot soup and then eat it with yummy special sauce!

this time round we had shabu shabu at Shabuya - VIVO city. apparently they score the highest for their shabu shabu in Hungry Go where. unfortunately they are not rated on their customer service there and sadly, we experience a GOOD + BAD experience there.

the price of the shabu is consider high. cos they charge by per serving of meat / vege and for meat, it is about 150g per plate. for a plate of kurobuta pork is about 20 bucks and waygu beef is about 30 bucks. there is no selection of the type of soup so it is standard type of soup for all (but you have 2 different type of soup based)

we ordered 1 plate of waygu beef, 1 plate of kurobuta pork belly, veges and japanese glass noodles for the shabu shabu

other side dishes..they served salmon belly sashimi which is really good and their garlic fried rice is superb except it doesnt fry with eggs =(

overall the food is not bad especially the beef and pork. the meat is thinly sliced and yummy. i had my first taste of beef and guess wat? i survived. i guess it is not about me being allergic to beef but the type of beef..normal beef i pulk..but wagyu i din. lol

next..take a look at this picture..

if you look at it carefully, u see two plates of wagyu beef and we only ordered 1 right? so this is what happen. when the food arrived, there isnt much space for them to place all the food on the small table. so they use a foldable table and placed it next to LL. when LL stood up to try to lower the temperature of the induction cooker. the table tople and fell. so the table 1 plate of half touched vege and 1 plate of untouched wagyu beef fell onto the floor.

now. we were all shocked cos
    1. it is not exactly our fault cos the table was placed too near us and we couldnt anticpate the whole event la
    2. will they give us a new plate of beef since probably they deem is our fault. forget about the vege..they dont cost us as much as the beef.

so the staff came and started to clear the mess and they mumble something to check our order. we continue to eat the rest of the meat (pork) n whatever is left in the pot.

soon after they clear the mess, they came with a new plate of wagyu beef which look much lesser ( so they assume that we took some of the beef and they give us lesser). so on one side we are happy that we got a new plate of beef and on the other end, we got pissed that we got lesser than 150g. so we told them that the beef was untouched all along. the staff then went to "put back" the beef to 150g and serve it to us.

next, while we happily eating the new beef, another staff came along delivering another plate of waygu beef and placed it on our table. we thought is out of good will since they
    1. delivered something lesser than we ordered
    2. cause us to waste 1 plate of wagyu beef.

we were happily eating from the 1st plate of beef and almost going to touch the next plate of beef when suddenly the staff coming and say she actually deliver the plate of beef to the wrong table which is like 30minutes later! we were disgusted by their actions
    1. how can they do this to us when the staff delivered it wrongly in the first place and we about to touch it until they came running to stop us
    2. how can the next customer eat something that is left in the open air for 30 minutes?

OMG. we were like..shit. what if we really eat the beef that they delivered it wrongly? will they charge us and what will happen if the next customer takes them??

seriously, despite the good food we had but the dinning experience is terrlbe. i wouldnt want to go back there to dine cos i maybe eating something that is left in the open for a long time.

  • of Ramen Craze part x - Ramen king!

YJ came bk for a short break and we had a date to try out the ramen king! the japanese restaurant is quite famous and is often seen with long queue outside during lunch hours.

    Keisuke Tonkotsu King

    1 Tras Link 01-19

    Orchid Hotel

    S 078867

the place is rather small and we only managed to get the counter seats. the ramen price is also very reasonable. on average is about 15 bucks. you can also customised the ramen (hard, normal or soft), the soup based (normal or extra spicy), less oil or more oily..etc

the char siew is very different from other japanese ramen restaurant as it is not roasted. it is more like stewed and it melts in your mouth. a super big piece too. they also give you 1 full egg instead of half and free flow of hard boil egg and bean sprout! water is also free at self service.

i tried their black spicy tonkotsu ramen - 13.80 bucks

yj tried their normal but with customised flavor like strong soup lol and is really good!

u need to grind the sesame seeds and add into the soup and it is really good!

basket full of hard boil eggs

yummy, we are always taking pictures before we eat!

    total damaged 31.31

head on down to Keisuke Tonkotsu King for a bowl of hot yummy ramen now!

  • of curry fish head @ Ocean - Tanjong Pagar

Finally, something non- ramen..lol. guess this ramen craze will still be on-going until i find the ramen taste same as the one in Manila. haha

Ocean Curry fish head @ tanjong Pagar (opp the Cliff). i used to frequent their other branch at Toa Payoh Lor 8 when i work in Serangoon North. Their curry fish head is really good. They also have other dishes ( like mixed vege rice) which are very good too. some of their famous ones are the sotong, pork chop and otar.

their curry fish head sauce is really thick and the fish head comes with a thick piece of meat after the "actual" head. they throw in alot of ladyfingers and brinjals ( my fav veges).

we went there a little late so not much variety of dishes left...but we still managed to order our fav otar. the otar is really soft and yummy. really gd stuff. made of real fish paste!

    chinese spinach

total damage : $30.40 for 2 pax. Price wise i feel is quite reasonable cos you still get to eat alot of meat from the fish head. Some places when they sell cheap curry fish head and you only get to eat miserable amount of fish meat..haha.so to me, it is still quite worth the money.

  • of ramen craze part X again - Menya Musashi @ The Star

i m thinking if i should blog on curry fish head first or my ramen cravings on sat lol. but i decided to blog on the latter cos later i am going to have Ramen again..yum yum. this time i m going to Q for the king of Ramen lol. wish me luck ..yum yum.

so this menya musashi actually is quite famous for their Red, White and Black Ramen. The white one is their original ramen, Red represents spicy and their black is their famous garlic ramen. There are 2 types of ramen. One is dried ones which is served together with a bowl of the soup (red / White / black). another is the soup based ( red / white / black).

This time round we took the dried one.

    their soup based version

personally i still prefer soup based version of ramen cos the ramen soak in the pipping hot soup is really superb.  the soup is very thick and i love the starchy taste of it. it taste like massive collagen haha..almost the same like the soup is cooked very long with tonnes of pig bones..we like the soup very much.

the ramen actually comes in a set with side dishes you can choose from. our usual sides dishes

you can visit them at theStar ( new shopping next to BV Mrt station), Ion and Raffles city. =)

  • of ramen craze...part x

there is this ramen craze going on for me. probably cos i miss the yummy ramen in Manila alot that i decided to search for one that is similiar taste in singapore. So far, not there yet. but i m sure i will be able to find one closest to the taste lor. humph.

    This time we tried

    Aoba Ramen @ Vivo City

    1 HarbourFront Walk
    #01-104/105 VivoCity

the ramen is very different from Marutama ( the wanton version). the noodles taste like those u have in ajisen ramen..probably they are the same cos they belongs to the same company. the soup base is not as fantastic as Marutama. The price is still ok as they offer set meals like 1 side dish + 1 drink + 1 ramen for less than 20 bucks?

overall, the dinner experience is so so but the food is not really fantastic.
