i love the set meal from Watami cos they are super value for money! at a price of 69 bucks for 2, you get to eat many dishes already! this time, we formed a pax of 4 so i get to eat more food at only 129 bucks hahaha.  super duper value for $$

As usual, the set meal comes with salad, main dishes, side dishes, drinks..etc. there are some food items that are fixed and some you get to choose from the list of variety la.

the tempura and their salad is fixed in their menu. although is fixed, it is something that you die die must try especially their watami salad! i m not really a salad fan but i m totally in love with the salad! the salad is super fresh and the half boil egg adds more freshness to the veges! i love the crispy breadcrumbs too!

their tempura prawns are also very fresh!

    their sashimi too!

this is something that you must order!!! their wafu pizza! unfortunately, it is only available in their deluxe set! the pizza uses a super thin layer of crust ( like nann) and japanese pizza usually comes with mayo..and i love mayo lol

next is their korean army pot (kankoku butechige)! i am totally in love with this! the soup uses miso as a base, the kimchi added some spiciness to the soup which blends super well with the instant noodles and korean rice cake! you can also order additional rice cake / noodles at 1 bucks per plate.

their tonpeiyaki! superbly good but sadly too cheesy for me lol!

next is their terayaki squid. although doesnt taste like rubber but is alittle too salty for me.

lastly is their irodori chirashi sushi! not bad. but i dont really like it as i m not really a fan of wasabi

    the salad

    main course

overall, the movie experience is superb, the dining is ..erhmmm…disappointment..

  • [Food Review] a taste of traditional in a different way

    Visit my website @ http://shirleylye12.wix.com/princessmic

This is my second time with OpenRice and i had so much fun! This time we went into the Havelock Neighbourhood to search for more yummy food!

A newly opened restaurant sitting along the road of Havelock Road. If you do not take a stroll along the street or if you do not live in Havelock neighbourhood, you probably will not notice this little gem.

This restaurant is opened by a lady boss who wants to share the love of claypot rice and she invented many fusion type of claypot rice for her children that is worth mentioning here! Many of the dishes are her own recipe too! and guys, fret not for the “always” the same claypot rice as ladyboss say she always want to experiment with new dishes to share with her customers!

Ladyboss and the host – CalvinTimo!

    Address:

    Signature Stone Restaurant

    729 Havelock Road, Singapore 169649

    Tel: 6271 9918

    www.signaturestonerestauarant.com

So what so special about the claypot rice other than new fusion dishes?

Tradditional claypot rice is cooked using clay pot ( ya…thats y is call claypot rice ma). Stone restaurant uses the pots that are being used for bibimbap! The reason is because this type of pot will constantly keep the rice warm ( trust me..after i finish my rice, the pot is still warm!) and the constant heat from the pot will help to create more rice crust ( for those clay pot rice lover gonna love this!) and not letting it to go chao tah! and the best part of their rice is..they cook the uncooked rice in the pot ( all the way until it is cooked!) so you will need to give them a call before coming down so that they can prepare the rice for u!

another thing that is worth mentioning here is their sambal chilli! it is lady boss’s secret recipe and it really set your taste bud on fire!

now here are what we had!

Stone Pot Bacon & Cheese Rice  ($10.90) – Bacon, mushroom, herbs with cheese

a fusion mixed of western bake rice and chinese way of cooking rice. The cheese is not too much so you wont get the gek lat feeling. However, i feel the rice is a little dry for me. nevertheless, it is something new to try out!

next is the stone chicken pot  ($5.30) – Special marinated chicken, salted fish, sausage, mushroom and veg.

this is my favourite! they added alot of salted fish inside and the chicken meat is very smooth and tender! guess what? they use drumstick only lo! With lotsa of chinese sausage and salted fish, this dish is like heaven to me haha. but, i find that a little more pork lard oil added to it will make it taste even better! but lady boss say they are practising healthy lifestyle but they can give additional shallot oil by request!

next  Stone Pork Chicken, Longans & Black Bean Soup (Big – $12.40) – Chicken, dried longan, black beans and slice licorice

This is my first time drinking soup cooked with dried longan. the longan added a different fragrant and taste to the soup. if you see from the picture below, the boss is super generous with the ingredients! and this dish is a super duper healthy dish for black beans is very good for legs, mushrooms is very good for lowering down blood pressure! and it is cooked for very long hours without MSG!

    next,Wine Chicken – $8.00

a soup that will warm your stomach on a rainy day! the chicken is cooked in the chinese wine together with some dried chilli to strengthen the taste of the soup. The dried chilli gives the soup a little spiciness which helps to even out the bitter taste from the wine.

next,   Onion Cheese Mushroom Omelette – $6.00

rthis dish is my favorite too! the egg is not overcooked and it is very soft and smooth! the lady boss added some cheese to give the egg a better texture and better taste! the cheese is just nice and will not make you feel gek lat lol…

next is their mango ice cream ($2.60)!

the mango ice cream is really very good! you can taste pieces of mango inside! not too sweet for my liking! a definitely must order dish!

  • of Ramen Good times @ Yoshimaru Ramen Bar

    Visit my website @ http://shirleylye12.wix.com/princessmic

A newly open ramen bar at Holland V that serve traditional taste from Hakata, Japan! Frankly speaking, i have never been to Japan but all Japanese ramen tastes very good to me haha. The old difference is the texture, the broth that they used to prepare the noodles.

    Yoshimaru Ramen Bar
    31 Lorong Liput Holland Village
    Singapore 277742
    http://www.yoshimaruramen.com.sg

    Mon-Fri Lunch : 11am to 3pm Dinner : 6pm – 11pm
    Sat,Sun & Public holiday 11am – 11pm
    (last order 30 mins before)

So what so special about the ramen?
Well, the difference i feel lies in their broth and noodles.Hakata ramen is cooked using tonkotsu (pork bone) which usually is the usual cloudy white broth. The broth is super rich in collagen( you can taste it!) The noodles are very thin and straight (something like marutama ramen).

    What they offer
there are a wide variety of ramen for you to choose from. They even serve Ramen cold too (this is something i have not seen before in other ramen bar). If you want to order set meal, their set meal comes with a side dish, 1 drink and 1 ramen for you to choose from! I would say set meal is more value for money. If you are more adventurous, you can take up their ramen challenge ~ to finish a big bow ( approx 3 ramen servings put together) in 15 mins and you enjoy the bow of ramen for free (worth of 30 over bucks!). I seen someone finish it in 12 mins and i was like wow….

they give you sesame seeds where you grind them to add more flavor to your ramen! you can also choose to add more fried garlic too!
    our set meal
I took the original Hakata ramen
LL took their garlic burn ramen..i prefer his as the taste of the soup is stronger
    Overall
    Food : **3/4

    Price : ***
The noodles is similiar to marutama ramen ( very thin) and the soup is quite nice actually. However, i prefer the garlic burn as it has stronger taste. the egg is a little too salty for me.
Will i come again? Maybe if i have ramen cravings and around the corner.

  • of my first time to Muthu’s curry

    Visit my website @ http://shirleylye12.wix.com/princessmic

i must say this is the first time i challenge myself to the extreme lo. i am never a person who can take super spicy food. lol. if not for my dad, i dont think i would even want to step into Muthu’s curry ( cos he got cravings that day la)

we went to the one at dempsey road which is the nearest to my place la. the restaurant is quite packed with customers for dinner time. lucky we got a table for four quickly. the restaurant is very nicely decorated.

overall i m proud to say that i survived the dinner haha. but i wont dare to try it again until i can “up” my spice tolerance level by 1 or more lo. haha. the food is reasonable priced too but that night we had a few dishes only and it come up to 100 bucks for 4 pax la.

Fish head curry ($30) – i must say for 30 bucks, it is very value for money cos they give u the whole fish head and not half of it. this dish is super spicy for me. i only eat abit of it lol but it is enough to give a very good review on it. the fish is very fresh. the curry itself is super spicy with alot of spice in it.

Aloo Gobi($8) – the cauliflower cooked in indian spice? this dish looks spicy but is not as spicy as i thought it is.

Tandoori Chicken($11) – i thought the chicken will be super dry from the look at it but i was quite surprised that the meat maintain the juiciness too!

Garlic nann ($4) – this is my favourite dish haha. the naan has alot of garlic in it. sadly i dont have butter chicken to go with lo.

Briyani Rice / veg  ($4 per pax and it is refillable)

  • of nasi lemak good times with open rice @ nasi lemak kukus

    Visit my website @ http://shirleylye12.wix.com/princessmic

My first food review with open rice. frankly speaking, i have not participated in such gatherings and i really do enjoy the company of fellow food bloggers and the 2 host from open rice! i love it! i hope more to come!

anyway, the food review location is set at Nasi Lemak Kukus. It is located at upp thomson road. to many army personnels, it is located near nee soon area where the famous ampang yong tou fu is. For those car lovers, it will be near the stretch of shop houses where expressmotion is =).

here is the exact address of Nasi Lemak Kukus
    908 Upper Thomson Road
    Singapore 787111

So whats so special about their nasi lemak that we all rave about?

    dang dang dang….

Yes! their RICE and their Sambal!

First let me share more about the rice!
normal nasi lemak uses rice cooker to boil and cook their rice but here, the boss stress that they only use steam to steam their rice so that each grain of their rice is evenly cooked! according to them, this is the traditional way of cooking rice. Sadly, seldom people cook rice using this method cos its too tedious and troublesome =(.

Next is their Sambal. this is the first time i ate nasi lemak has 2 types of sambal for you to choose from. Sweet Sambal and Spicy Sambal. the sweet sambal is those normal type of nasi lemak chili while the spicy one is..erhmm..super spicy lol.

i also found something interesting in their menu this time – drip coffee. for those who do not know what is drip coffee, it looks like this ( below). yes, it is also the Vietnamese coffee la. Why i say interesting? cos i first time see a malay cafe sell Vietnamese coffee lo haha. hey, it is quite affordable here ok? cos $2.50 only

ok. back to their nasi lemak. the rice actually cost $1 and is refillable la. but the side dishes is not haha. on average, 1 side dish cost approx 1.50- 2.50. depending on the type of dish you choose and you get to scoop the amount you like ( kinda like buffet style but is only 1 time basis haha). there is also wide variety of side dishes for you to choose from! their famous one is their mutton cooked in rendang style. i love it! the mutton is quite soft and doesnt has that “mutton” smell / taste haha

their food is freshly cooked and replenish each time!
here is my plate of food!

    Food : ***
    Customer Service : ***
    Price : ***

Overall, i like their rice and mutton rendang. I find the sweet sambal a little salty (aftermath). The drip coffee is really good ( Thanks for the recommendation). Sadly the location is a little too far for me unless i m around the punggol area / ang mo kio area. Parking wise is a little limited.

Will i come again? Yes, i havent try their power burger yet and if i am around the corner.=)

  • of a taste of Peranakan Cuisine @ Baba Wins’

A small restaurant that hides at a small corner in the shopping mall – The Star Vista. Me and LL was walking around the star for new food choices other than our usual ramen place and porn’s. Had a little craving for something spicy ( but not too spicy ) that day. We stumble across this small restaurant that serves Peranakan Cuisine and decided to give it a try.

For benefit of others who may want to visit this place, here is the full address with unit number
     Baba wins’ Peranakan cuisine
    #01-23
The star vistaVista exchange green s(138617)
    Telephone : 6268 9370 / 9735 9178

Very sincere Staff – waitress and chef ( i think cos she came out of the kitchen to serve us the food while the waitress is taking order from other table and then she went bk to cook again). the place is rather small that sits less than 30 pax at the same time? the dishes on the menu is limited but i guess u only need a few good ones to get returning customers. The price is also reasonable.

    overall
     Food : ***

our total spend is 37.95 for 2 pax.

    here is what we ordered
    1. Assam Fish w lady’s finger  -$10.50
    2. kang kong – $8
    3. chinchalok omelette – $8
    4. rice -$2
    5. lemongrass drink -$3

    their own made sambal chili

chinchalok omelette. seriously, if you ask me to eat chinchalok alone, i rather die than eat it cos i find the taste pretty weird. i was very skeptical on how this dish will turn out as previously i already had phobia of the chinchalok smell and taste. However, this dish turn out pretty well and i quite like it as the egg is very soft, there isnt strong taste of the chinchalok but yet you know it is chinchalok la.

Assam fish w lady’s finger. this is the dish i actually have cravings for. haha. i wanted to eat something sour and spicy lol. but i was a little disappointed with the fish that they used. maybe if they use batang fish, this dish will taste differently or maybe this is the original peranakan dish.the assam soup is really appetizing to go with rice

kangkong. the chef is pretty nice to come and explain that the red chili is actually for decorations and is not spicy at all ( cos previously i ask if the sambal kangkong will be very spicy) lol

will i come again? Yes. i intend to bring my parents too!
