  • of my first time to Muthu's curry

    Visit my website @ http://shirleylye12.wix.com/princessmic

i must say this is the first time i challenge myself to the extreme lo. i am never a person who can take super spicy food. lol. if not for my dad, i dont think i would even want to step into Muthu's curry ( cos he got cravings that day la)

we went to the one at dempsey road which is the nearest to my place la. the restaurant is quite packed with customers for dinner time. lucky we got a table for four quickly. the restaurant is very nicely decorated.

overall i m proud to say that i survived the dinner haha. but i wont dare to try it again until i can "up" my spice tolerance level by 1 or more lo. haha. the food is reasonable priced too but that night we had a few dishes only and it come up to 100 bucks for 4 pax la.

Fish head curry ($30) - i must say for 30 bucks, it is very value for money cos they give u the whole fish head and not half of it. this dish is super spicy for me. i only eat abit of it lol but it is enough to give a very good review on it. the fish is very fresh. the curry itself is super spicy with alot of spice in it.

Aloo Gobi($8) - the cauliflower cooked in indian spice? this dish looks spicy but is not as spicy as i thought it is.

Tandoori Chicken($11) - i thought the chicken will be super dry from the look at it but i was quite surprised that the meat maintain the juiciness too!

Garlic nann ($4) - this is my favourite dish haha. the naan has alot of garlic in it. sadly i dont have butter chicken to go with lo.

Briyani Rice / veg  ($4 per pax and it is refillable)

  • of nasi lemak good times with open rice @ nasi lemak kukus

    Visit my website @ http://shirleylye12.wix.com/princessmic

My first food review with open rice. frankly speaking, i have not participated in such gatherings and i really do enjoy the company of fellow food bloggers and the 2 host from open rice! i love it! i hope more to come!

anyway, the food review location is set at Nasi Lemak Kukus. It is located at upp thomson road. to many army personnels, it is located near nee soon area where the famous ampang yong tou fu is. For those car lovers, it will be near the stretch of shop houses where expressmotion is =).

here is the exact address of Nasi Lemak Kukus
    908 Upper Thomson Road
    Singapore 787111

So whats so special about their nasi lemak that we all rave about?

    dang dang dang....

Yes! their RICE and their Sambal!

First let me share more about the rice!
normal nasi lemak uses rice cooker to boil and cook their rice but here, the boss stress that they only use steam to steam their rice so that each grain of their rice is evenly cooked! according to them, this is the traditional way of cooking rice. Sadly, seldom people cook rice using this method cos its too tedious and troublesome =(.

Next is their Sambal. this is the first time i ate nasi lemak has 2 types of sambal for you to choose from. Sweet Sambal and Spicy Sambal. the sweet sambal is those normal type of nasi lemak chili while the spicy one is..erhmm..super spicy lol.

i also found something interesting in their menu this time - drip coffee. for those who do not know what is drip coffee, it looks like this ( below). yes, it is also the Vietnamese coffee la. Why i say interesting? cos i first time see a malay cafe sell Vietnamese coffee lo haha. hey, it is quite affordable here ok? cos $2.50 only

ok. back to their nasi lemak. the rice actually cost $1 and is refillable la. but the side dishes is not haha. on average, 1 side dish cost approx 1.50- 2.50. depending on the type of dish you choose and you get to scoop the amount you like ( kinda like buffet style but is only 1 time basis haha). there is also wide variety of side dishes for you to choose from! their famous one is their mutton cooked in rendang style. i love it! the mutton is quite soft and doesnt has that "mutton" smell / taste haha

their food is freshly cooked and replenish each time!
here is my plate of food!

Overall, i like their rice and mutton rendang. I find the sweet sambal a little salty (aftermath). The drip coffee is really good ( Thanks for the recommendation). Sadly the location is a little too far for me unless i m around the punggol area / ang mo kio area. Parking wise is a little limited.

Will i come again? Yes, i havent try their power burger yet and if i am around the corner.=)

  • of a taste of Peranakan Cuisine @ Baba Wins'

    Visit my website @ http://shirleylye12.wix.com/princessmic

A small restaurant that hides at a small corner in the shopping mall - The Star Vista. Me and LL was walking around the star for new food choices other than our usual ramen place and porn's. Had a little craving for something spicy ( but not too spicy ) that day. We stumble across this small restaurant that serves Peranakan Cuisine and decided to give it a try.

For benefit of others who may want to visit this place, here is the full address with unit number
     Baba wins' Peranakan cuisine
    #01-23
The star vistaVista exchange green s(138617)
    Telephone : 6268 9370 / 9735 9178

Very sincere Staff - waitress and chef ( i think cos she came out of the kitchen to serve us the food while the waitress is taking order from other table and then she went bk to cook again). the place is rather small that sits less than 30 pax at the same time? the dishes on the menu is limited but i guess u only need a few good ones to get returning customers. The price is also reasonable.

    overall
     Food : ***
    Price : **
    Customer Service *** 1/2
our total spend is 37.95 for 2 pax.

    here is what we ordered
    1. Assam Fish w lady's finger  -$10.50
    2. kang kong - $8
    3. chinchalok omelette - $8
    4. rice -$2
    5. lemongrass drink -$3

    their own made sambal chili

chinchalok omelette. seriously, if you ask me to eat chinchalok alone, i rather die than eat it cos i find the taste pretty weird. i was very skeptical on how this dish will turn out as previously i already had phobia of the chinchalok smell and taste. However, this dish turn out pretty well and i quite like it as the egg is very soft, there isnt strong taste of the chinchalok but yet you know it is chinchalok la.

Assam fish w lady's finger. this is the dish i actually have cravings for. haha. i wanted to eat something sour and spicy lol. but i was a little disappointed with the fish that they used. maybe if they use batang fish, this dish will taste differently or maybe this is the original peranakan dish.the assam soup is really appetizing to go with rice

kangkong. the chef is pretty nice to come and explain that the red chili is actually for decorations and is not spicy at all ( cos previously i ask if the sambal kangkong will be very spicy) lol

will i come again? Yes. i intend to bring my parents too!

  • of Vegetarian Restaurant cuisine @ hawker's price ~ Lin Lin Vegetarian Delight

    Visit my website @ http://shirleylye12.wix.com/princessmic

I seldom blog about vegetarian food as i dont really eat vegetarian food unless is with my family and happen to be a 1st or 15th of the month ( my mum usually eat vegetarian for the whole day). we used to patron the ze char stall at Circuit Rd market until they close the whole market for renovation la. then we started to search for alternatives. so this is one of the stall which i find their food is pretty nice and reasonably priced.

there is a signboard that clearly states their menu -  what they have and the price of each dish. you find similar dishes to those non vegetarian ones.

we tried their following dishes which i find it quite nice despite is vegetarian cooked in normal ze char way lol.

hor fun - generous with their vegetarian ingredients ( vegetarian ingredients are quite expensive as they need alot of effort to make). hor fun is not soggy and their vegetarian sotong taste abit like "real" one too.

Hokkien mee. i m not a yellow mee person as i hate the taste of it but i quite like this one actually.

xin zou bee hoon. i always like to eat fried beehoon. their beehoon has this QQ taste. i love it. except they did not make the bee hoon shorter.

fried tapioca leaves with fermented bean curb. yums. my fav. the vege is not very "old" ( of cos this is not a very good way to measure how good the dish is..cos it really depends the vege's condition that day). i mean the vege is not overcooked lol. anyway. this dish is really for sharing cos i feel every meal, we need to have at least 1 vege..healthy lifestyle lol

overall the food is nice and not really expensive. for the above, total damage is 28 bucks. will i come again? definitely to try out other dishes on the vegetarian day. now we got another choice for vegetarian food!

  • of Danro good times at NEX !

    Visit my website @ http://shirleylye12.wix.com/princessmic

Finally, we got a chance to try out something new this weekend despite we are busy with our house. we went for a good dinner after our site visit! I heard much raves about Danro from bloggers and so here we are ~ our first time @ Danro!

Danro is a japanese shabu steamboat buffet, the difference between Danro and other japanese steamboat is their large variety of soup. this time, we took their nanbe (chicken bone with milk soup) and their chicken miso soup. They serve free flow of drinks, seafood, veges , beef, chicken and pork. they also serve some cooked food and ice cream too!

difference between i take picture and LL take picture is..i ensure his photo is clear..n his? i look blur......-_-"

the steamboat bowl has 2 side ( similar to those ma la hot pot we have) that allows u to have 2 different soup base. the soup is refillable and u can just pick up the soup container at the soup kiosk

the cooked food kiosk that serve fried rice, salmon chips, fried meat balls and pork ribs!

seafood they served ~ Scallops, flower crab, Lala (shell fish), salmon paste

    sushi @ sushi bar

Veges and onsen egg ( i love it...)

thinly sliced pork n beef for shabu

they also hav large variety of sauce to go with! our fav peanut and black pepper sauce!

last but not least, whats better to end the last day of the meal with ? Japanese ice cream! i love the mango syrup with corn flakes!

    Verdict :

Food : *** ( we love the nanbe soup base better than the miso one. LL feels that their nanbe one is better than nanbejin @ plaza sing while i beg to differ lol but both is as good)

Price : *** ( consider quite reasonable priced as cost about 30 bucks per pax on a wkend dinner)

    Customer service : ***

Will i come again? Sure! cos i cant wait to try out other soup base!

    Visit my website @ http://shirleylye12.wix.com/princessmic

Super busy lately with my own personal life n i did not have time to explore new food hunts =(. and those place i went for my dinner and lunch will probably bored u to death! yea. i m a boring person when comes to a busy schedule.

in case you are wondering why i am super busy, so here is some quick updates la. ok.
    .
    .
    .
    .
i m busy with my house lol!!! exciting for me. cos have been waiting for it for so long and i keep going to the construction site to peep at the progress. from a construction site to a site where the houses are more or less ready! so we went shopping for our electrical appliances over the wkend lo.

anyway, we went to Hainanese Market for brunch on Sun cos LL misses the prawn noodles there! This time round i tried the fried carrot cake there and it is really good! super soft and filled with alot of eggs ( super love).

milo korsong peng + tehsi peng

prawn noodles. he loves his yellow noodles which i dread it lol. i hate the taste of yellow noodles. dont ask me y. just hate it. usually if i wan prawn noodles, i will hav it in bee hoon soup lol

next is the fried carrot cake i am talking about! look at the amount of eggs covering the carrot cake! yumz!

  • of we are back! Majestic Restaurant

    Visit my website @ http://shirleylye12.wix.com/princessmic

This time round, i brought my parents there for dinner! i miss their claypot chicken rice and their speciality chilli sauce!

We did ordered a few dishes that is repeated (peking duck, claypot chicken rice and garlic toufu cos are my fav mah.) and a new dish too. Shall not bored you with the repeated ones. So i just intro the new dish.

tah tah tah dahhhhhh..Mei Cai with Kai lan. I thought this dish is quite interesting. i always have Mei Cai with pork belly but with Kai lan? this is something new. The unique taste from Mei Cai can blend perfectly with Kai lan. The Mei cai doesnt taste like those usual ones, it is those sweet type and the kai lan is stirred fried. so the two different taste give a brand new taste to this dish! i love it!

hehe. hope you like this new dish too if you dine at Majestic restaurant!

Next, is my OOTD. I just found another new website that sell very nice clothes and bags (other than my usual ones like lovebonito, klarra and thevelvetdolls). this website is call LoveMi, they actually have a existing shop 14 Keong Saik Road too!

I love this black dress that makes me look super slim and pretty!

Next is the Satchel bag! it comes in different colors! Pink, blue, classic brown..etc. This one is 2 tone that comes in Black with purple! love it!

the design of the bag is super trendy that i can match it even for casual wear on weekends! oppa gandam style! lol. just a top with shorts! so get yours too @lovemi.com!

  • of simple dinner @ Crystal Jade ~ Holland V

    Visit my website @ http://shirleylye12.wix.com/princessmic

Simple dinner together with family is always the best moments i have every weekend and i am glad that LL made an effort to dine with my parents even though he is very busy with work. Usually he will do a quick dinner before heading back home to work from home. To allow him to go home earlier to his work, we usually dine somewhere near my place. So we settled down for Crystal Jade last Sun.

A few simple hearty dishes that marks the end of my weekend and now is the beginning of the new one.

    Food: ***
    Price : ***1/2
    Customer Service : ***

Xue Cai ( snow vege it called? nt very sure but it seems that we cant buy this vege in the market. so far, i only managed to eat it in restaurants like Crystal Jade. something like preserved vege aka mei cai but it is fresh.) with  mushrooms and glutten. the glutten is made of bean curb skin and i love it

Sweet and sour pork again. haha. but this time is restaurant standard.

due to the recent haze and my mum is not feeling that well, LL ordered ginseng soup for every of us! yum. some restaurants will use the normal chicken instead of the black one. personally, i prefer to use black chicken for boiled herbal soup as it is more nutritious and taste better. The chicken is well cooked as the meat is super tender.

Next is the salted fish with toufu and minced chicken meat! i love this dish alot! goes very well with rice! the toufu is super soft even after deep fried. the chicken meat is also very smooth and tender!

verdict : I will definitely return for more and will order the salt fish dish again! yumz!

    Visit my website @ http://shirleylye12.wix.com/princessmic

Located at a corner of Blk 721 Clementi West St 2, the big signboard that is next to the entrance to the carpark you can hardly missed. This is the favorite zi char location we used to patronize when i was studying in uni. My daddy will drive us there for dinner over the weekends and now it is our turn to drive daddy and mummy there for dinner =) .

the food still taste very much the same as before. They are very famous for their fish soup with XO too. I prefer theirs over the Holland V one as theirs is less bitter in taste ( maybe the wine that they add is not as much..lol)

    Food: ***
    Price: ***
    Customer Service : ***

this time round we order some other dishes. It happen that my mama is on vegetarian diet and they make an exception to cook hor fun with veges only. lol. and this simple gesture makes my mama super happy lol. cos the usual vegetarian stall in the market is closed.so she is very happy with her hor fun

for us, we are more heckcareless over religion diet lol. especially for me. muahaha. anyway, we ordered tapioca leaves with fermented bean curb. this is my fav dish especially if i sense myself getting a sore throat soon and still have cravings for tapioca leaves lol. the vege is not overcooked and doesnt taste that old which is very much to my liking. =P

next is seaweed soup. this soup comes a little blend to me. but i m super happy with the amount of seaweed they put inside lol. m a fanatic when comes to seaweed, i can eat them cooked or even those like titbits all day long.

sweet and sour pork. usually is the dish that i sentence the stall to "live" or "die". fortunately, they managed to "live" but if i compare it with the one at my place, they will "die" lol. cos i taste more flour than the meat itself.

last but not least, their homemade toufu with cereal. this dish is quite new to me. i quite like their toufu. it is mixed with fish paste and deep fried. it taste alittle similar to cereal prawn except the prawn is replaced with toufu. overall this dish is quite appealing to me and i will order it again.

will i return for more? Yes of cos! never forget this zi char place that accompany me all these while!

    Visit my website @ http://shirleylye12.wix.com/princessmic

had a nice dinner @ 85 bedok north food centre with our STM gang. Bedok north food centre is not only well know for their famous bak chor mee ( did a post previously -> read here ). they also have very yummy food like fried oyster egg, BBQ chicken wing and BBQ sotong too!

Sin Bedok North BBQ chicken wing . very crispy and juicy.

85 Bedok North Oyster Omelette. i love their chilli sauce. taste heavenly with the oyster omelette. although i dont take oyster la but i take the starch thingy plus the egg haha.

Lin Yuan Satay. the satay meat is not too dry as compared to others.

Chan BBQ. a little too spicy for me but i love it haha.the sotong is not overcooked so it doesnt taste like rubber. The sting ray is quite good too.

last but not least, the famous bak chor mee. yum.

last but not least, us! after attending a wedding lunch reception before heading down to expo and then dinner after =)
