this is actually the second time i got “jammed” at Bangkok jam. Pretty fascinated with what they serve on their menu and their dishes presentation. especially their funky use of cutleries (bowls in weird funky shape). Food wise, i would say is pretty good. of cos there are some wows and some boos for me.

Thai Fish cakes @ $9.50. Not very strong in the coconut milk taste, not very spicy for me too. but i find they are pretty stingy with their thai chilli sauce. of cos, if i request for more, they probably will give me more.

stirred fry minced chicken with basil @ 11.90 bucks. this dish gives me major wow. the chicken meat is very soft and for the start, i thought it is pork haha.

Green curry chicken @ 12 bucks. this gives me a boo. i dont quite like their green curry chicken. lack of the coconut milk taste i feel although the chicken is pretty tender and soft

fish maw soup @ 9.90 bucks. i quite like this soup but i think there are alot of MSG inside so it is pretty artificial taste to me. haha. but overall, the chef is pretty generous with the fish maw.

Seafood in clear tom yum. dont really find it special but taste pretty ok to me.

kailan with salted fish @ 10.50 bucks. it is pretty weird as this dish cost more than my fish maw soup haha. i give this dish a super wow too. not too over with the salted fish.

overall the food is pretty expensive i feel. we spend 73.80 bucks for 6 dish and out of it, the most expensive dish is actually the green curry chicken which is the louder boo for me. however, the rest of the dishes are pretty good. =)

Overly excited over this super value deal that i wish to share here!

Yes! for $19.80++, you get to eat peking duck, their xiao long bao, abalone soup and their spinach beancurd!!!  super worth it!

this is not the first time i dine in Mouth restaurant hehe. I find their dishes are pretty decent and reasonably price especially this set lunch meal.

we ordered their flower tea which is good for health!tea is not included in the set menu

xiao long bao. i love their xiao long bao. very juicy with soup! the skin is pretty thin.

spinach toufu. i love this dish very much! the toufu is crispy from the outside but soft on the inside

peking duck. pity they use those egg roll skin wraps..else it will b very nice as the sauce is very good

not a fan of their noodles…

sadly, i think i forgot to take picture of the abalone soup but it is really good!

lastly, ending the set meal with a desert

  • [Food Review] Sincere food from Sik Wai Sin Eating House

    Visit my website @ http://shirleylye12.wix.com/princessmic

As the name of the place says “Sik Wai Sin”(Cantonese) in English is Eat comes first. With no physical menu, all menu is up on each waitress/ waiter ‘s mind and only 8 different dishes available. It is not easy to WOW many people nowadays and yet, the sincerity of the chef and the skills of preparing the dishes touches each and everyone’s heart that draws crowd to this eating house.

Located at the street of Geylang , it is not too difficult find the eating house. The eating house has been there for a long time and it has been passed down to the second generation from the old chef himself. Now the 2 younger chef are in charge of the kitchen now. with no secret recipe, all home cooked style of food, it really gives one the homely feel. nothing special, just home cooked food. full stop.

i m very honoured to attend this food tasting session with Openrice and out of the 8 dishes, we tried 5 dishes that day! overall, there are some WOW and some Boo for me la. but i can there are more WOWs than Boo for me. =)

Dish 1 : Watercress Pork Ribs Soup ($12) . Cantonese are very famous for the soup. they love soup for dinner and they are very good in brewing soup too. The pork ribs are so well cooked that you can see that the meat is very soft ( all become pieces) when you scoop up the meat and veges together.

Prawns with Tofu ($20)- This is my favorite dish of the night. The toufu is really soft despite that it is deep fried.  the prawns are huge but sadly i feel that it is overcooked as the meat is pretty tough. the “zap” aka the sauce is very good and taste good with just a bowl of plain rice.

    Minced Pork with
Salted Fish ($12) – this is a very old school dish but still, eating at Sik Wai Sin makes it so refreshing. Why? The pork is very smooth and the salted fish is not too much to the extend that it covers the taste of the pork. although it doesnt give me the WOW, but it reminds me of home cooked food.

    Sliced Beef with
Kailan ($20) –  Cooking beef needs alot of skills especially if it is overcooked, it taste very hard and if it is undercooked, the meat will be super bloody and probably even the veges that comes with it will taste  of the blood. This dish apparently is my 3rd fav, second to the minced meat with salted fish. The beef is thinly cut and not overcooked however, the beef is too big for one mouthful bite ( i prefer it smaller).

Song Fish Head with Bean Paste ($25) – this is the featured dish of the night. Song fish, is a fresh water fish and it is quite difficult to prepare the fish (removing the fresh water taste). but this dish, it really caught me by surprise! with alot of pork lard and the bean paste, the fish doesnt have any “fresh water” taste at all! the fish is also super fresh!

A western restaurant that is located near Changi Prison that offers a place for friends to get together for a nice dinner.

The place to me is super far as it is located at the extreme east side of Singapore. The location is also quite ulu and it turns quite creepy at night especially if you park your car further down the road. overall the food taste so so only but super value for money! of cos, i wouldnt want to go there again unless i am somewhere near the area la.

cheesy enoki / shimeiji @ $9. a very cheesy dish to me. lucky for me, i dont get all ger lat after eating it. i guess probably eating small portion of it is ok but not all of it.

cream of mushroom @ $4.90 i like this. the strong taste of mushroom and yet not too creamy for me. and you can find small chunks of mushrooms in it.

tenderloin steak @ $23.80. the portion is huge and the beef is quite good actually but sadly, nothing special to mention about. =(.

  • of dimsum good times at Peony Jade

Met up with a group of friends for dimsum on a late sat morning. Peony Jade is located at Keppel Club. It is the second branch in Singapore. The first one is located at Clarke Quay. Peony Jade is specialized in serving Cantonese / Sze Chuan cuisines.

this is my first time to their restaurant and this is my feedback!

Food : *** ( Must try their signature dim sum! my fav will be their taro steam pork ribs and their pandan custard bun!)

  • of simple zi char @ Cheng’s Seafood village

    Visit my website @ http://shirleylye12.wix.com/princessmic

Located at the new Punggol waterway next to the golf driving range. A small zi char stall. The area is really pretty small and the owner actually set up those like temporary tent to accommodate more tables for customers. The restaurant actually has been opened for quite sometime and i have been there a couple of times for dinner already but yet blog about it.

The food is pretty ok for selective dishes and the price is quite reasonable too. I wouldn’t say all the dishes are good but it is actually subject to individual’s taste buds la. like for example : some dish i will find the taste so so only but LL will love the dishes like crazy and will repeat order it each time we go there for dinner.

    Cheng’s Seafood Village
    60, Punggol East
    #01-10
    Singapore 828825
    Operating Hrs : daily 3pm to 1am
    Website : www.chengs-seafood.com

well, here are some of the dishes we had..

their specialty pork ribs. i find it so so only. seriously i dont really like the pork ribs tat much as i feel there is nothing special about it and it taste very peppery to me.

Chinese spinach broth. sadly, this doesnt give me a thumbs up but a down. the spinach is pretty old ( i got very high expectation for this dish as i love chinese spinach and very particular over the way how it is cooked). the broth also doesnt give me the wow feeling.

their home made toufu. this dish to me is ok. except i think it is a little over fried cos abit chao ta on the sides. or perhaps my mum has done a better job haha.

their fried mee sua. ok, this is the dish that i love whenever i go there for dinner. not too oily and the mee sua doesnt taste like “expiry fried food”. means they use fresh oil to deep fry the mee sua before frying it

Radish omelette. the egg is pretty soft but sadly, i dont taste much of the cai por lo

ginger fry venison. the sauce is pretty good to go with plain white rice. the venison is also not overcooked. worth the try

Tom yam..i think this is probably the only dish that set LL into disappointment haha. to me, i find it ok and not too bad. he feels it doesnt really hav the “tom yam” taste..but it is hard to expect a zi char stall to cook thai dishes that really taste like thai dishes la hor?

    overall
    Food : ** 1/2
    Price : **
Customer service : ** 1/2 ( i dont really like the staff there but i give a 1/2 more cos they help me to put mosquito coil when i request for it)

Btw, did i mention that there are alot of mosquitoes there? lol. if you are there for dinner and afraid of commandos  you can request for mosquito coils =)

  • [Review] eTude’s 6 in 1 cushion BB

    Visit my website @ http://shirleylye12.wix.com/princessmic

I am so in love with cushion BB nowadays! it has become my favourite makeup product and i am using it everyday for sunblock, light makeup for weekends and even my daily office makeup base! I previously did a review on Laneige snow bb soothing cushion lor -> http://princessmic80.blogspot.sg/2013/05/review-laneige-snow-bb-soothing-cushion.html

now i m bk for more! this time i try eTude’s 6 in 1 cushion BB and the compact powder! i must say 2 words! MAJOR LOVES

    Reviews on BB cushion

the cushion house is slightly bigger as compared to Laneige’s and is easier to blend on to my face. the color tone although there is only 2 type but it matches much better for me than Laneige ( more more natural. Laneige one still abit off color if i put on a foundation base ) and provides more coverage. Overall, i prefer this than Laneige now. lol.

next for their compact face powder.

this is another my favorite product as compared to my chanel powder pact. lol. the powder is very light and easy to put on. it doesnt give the chalky feeling and looks very natural on my skin tone. it also covers up my pores and set the makeup nicely. it also controls oil much better as my face only gets oily after 1-2 hrs than normal 1 hr. it doesnt oxides easily too!

so thats the end of my 2 recent products i purchase from eTude house! love it! ending the post with a picture of me using the 2 products only.

  • of a not so nice experience at MBS ~ Phantom of Opera

    Visit my website @ http://shirleylye12.wix.com/princessmic

i decided to pen this down so that i can remember and share this with others la. Phantom of Opera is really good especially Brad Little portray Phantom very well. I love his performance. However, is the way how the theatre is managed now upset me a lot and probably us, as the consumer needs to learn to be more respectful to others.

THe thing is like this. I enjoyed the first half of the musical until the second part where everyone went out to get drinks and some they got food. of cos, i do not expect the consumers to finish whatever they purchase within 15 mins (including toilet breaks), so they are allowed to bring into the theatre ( but i make it attempt to finish my drinks). To my disgust, they are now even allowed to eat during the performance. i m so upset.

    Why?

    1. i paid for the tickets to listern to performance. not to hear people drink and chatting. They even munch on pop corns. i could barely hear what the performer is singing. this is also about respect for the performers. this couple actually munch so loudly and the ushers did not even attempt to stop them. i was there for lion king, wicked but previously they did not even allowed us to bring in food! whats wrong with these people? if you want to impress your gf or what, please, act high class la. and not act as if you are watching a movie in a cinema. if you want to munch pls go somewhere else… and what? the management actually allow people to eat during the performance. this really sucks. sorry to say this , although previously i work in MBS and i know these people..but really sucks. if f&B wants to earn more money, they should set rules and regulations. this is really terrible.

    2. people chat in throughout the show. the gf wants to impress her bf how knowledgable she is that she keeps talking and talking non-stop. the best is, she say “howcome Sarah brightman is not here with the phantom?” hello, if you want to show how good u are, please, do some research…if sarah brightman is here as christine, she will be the oldest i even seen. even if you want to chat or talk, please talk smart.

sadly. i paid for the tickets and yet i get sucky services. but i do want to give credits to the performers. they did very well.

  • of me and Faith

    Visit my website @ http://shirleylye12.wix.com/princessmic

Faith is about 3 month plus now which means Ronnie has left me about 5 mths already. Faith is growing up strong and healthy. i pray that she will continue this way. since my last handling with Ronnie, i learnt many things. time spend with pets are very short as they dont live longer than us, they treasure the time they spend with us more than us. and very often we took them for granted. especially me. I never realize the time i spend with Ronnie is so little that he is suddenly gone like that. i tend to appreciate the time i have with Faith more now. I am willing to sacrifice more trips, my classes for Faith ( although i did too for Ronnie).

I also learnt that commercial food are really bad! totally bad. somehow i feel natural food, homecooked food is always the best! everyday i ensure that Faith gets homecooked food. even her treats are baked by me. I now got a dehydrator to make pork jerkies for her. not that i dont want to do it for Ronnie. just that i din know that treats off the shelves could be so bad..after much read up, i realize food i have to dog is only safe through me as only i know what it is made of. I bought cookbooks to learn to cook for Faith, i ensure that without eating commercial dog food, her daily nutrient are covered with the variety of vege, meat..etc.

Another lesson i learnt too is that i shouldnt encourage the dog to keep taking medication. Ronnie had always been given steroids for any tom dick henry illness like lao sai, skin problems..etc. which is really bad! medicine are bad! the best way to go is herbal. with the last few mths of Ronnie’s life, i seen how TCM works and TCM uses the natural herbs which is safer and not damaging to the health. although progress is slow but at least, the side effect is lesser.

and also chemical used for tick repellents are bad too..somehow i feel Ronnie’s spine problem is also caused by too much chemical in his blood..thus now i use neem oil, herbal essential oil. i dont know how effective it is but it is highly recommended by my friend who is Ronnie’s dog trainer also communicator. i also adopted Ronnie tru her.

Ronnie is really a painful lesson for me and until now, i can still think of him and i cry. cos i din do enough, i thought i can take care of him. i know the proper way but he died becos of me. now with Faith, i will give her my best. i promise. i pray that she will stay safe, healthy and strong. Amen
